Having a Thankful Heart is Key! .....by Dave Roberson Dear Friend, .......
God showed me something about His love a few years ago during one of my seeking times. He came and poured His Presence out on me unlike any time before. When this first happened, all I could do was cry and cry; that’s all I could handle. He showed me that what He had poured out was only a small portion of His love, like a thin layer of onion skin.
As time went on and I learned more and was faithful to stay in private worship (the personal, alone-with-God kind of worship), He was able to pour more out on me. Wonderful miracles started happening in my meetings, and the anointing flowed so strongly that people were also getting healed when someone stood in proxy for them or when a prayer cloth was laid on them. Prophecy for Edification, Exhortation and Comfort, by Dave Roberson |
|
Dear Friend,
Although I operate a lot in the teaching gift, God has used me frequently to prophesy, especially during our services at The Family Prayer Center in Tulsa. I was so grateful when He opened my understanding on how this gift operates and why it is so important. And that is what I want to share with you in this letter.
You see, a true word from God is from just that—from God, whether it is written in the Bible or given through prophecy. So what is the difference? The words we receive in prophecy do line up with Scripture, yet they pertain more specifically to what is going on in the Body of Christ or the world. In other words, God is highlighting or condensing truths from the Bible from specific verses or through principles gleaned from understanding Scripture. These truths can help us in our current circumstances as well as in the future. But let’s look at what Paul said about prophesying.
In First Corinthians 14:3, Paul said, But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. Once you understand what Paul was talking about in this verse, you will be able to tell the difference between the kind of prophesying that is spoken over individuals and the kind that is spoken over entire congregations and the Church as a whole.
When I first began to prophesy to our congregation, I would notice that there was a shift in the Spirit. A distinct peace would come inside of me and things would start flowing in a different way. At first, I thought I was just teaching really well. I didn’t know I was prophesying because no “Thus saith the Lord . . .” or “Yea, the Lord would say unto thee . . .” accompanied the prophecy. In this shift in the Spirit, the mind of Christ would drop out of Heaven onto me. Then God would speak out of the mind of Christ to the church for that moment, addressing what the people were going through and telling them what they needed to know both for the present and the future. Even so, all the answers and all the instructions given during these times were based on God’s Word.
In Romans 12:6, Paul had something else to say about this type of prophecy: Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith.
